In August the BARC North Western Centre will be celebrating 50 years since the Centre ran its first meeting at Oulton Park. This first meeting took place on the 20th August 1966. Much has changed since then at the circuit, back then there was only one configuration of the track, that being what is now called the International circuit. It is much the same as it is today other than there was back then no chichane after the ESSO hairpin (noe called Shell) and no complex before Knickerbrook. Obviously things have changed with for the sake of safety but the original parkland feel of the circuit definitely remains today. Over the years the Centre has organised upwards of 200 meetings with an ever changing band of dedicated volunteers taking up all senior roles required. Back in 1966 the then Chairman, Jock Sinclair, had built up a small team of skilled people ready for the task of organising this first meeting without help from our HQ. Since then the chairmen who followed on from Jock, Ken Mitchell, Dave Blundell and the current Chairman, Ray Sumner have continued the good work laid down by Jock and always had an enthusiastic team ready to organise any meeting from the humble clubbie (as we will be running on the 6th August) to F5000/British F1 meetings of the seventies and eighties, Thundersports and even the occasional British Touring Car meetings.
