Jamie Cryer takes back to back CNC Heads Championships

Going into the last two rounds of the CNC Heads Sports/Saloon Championship, at Oulton Park on the 23rd October, six drivers had a chance of taking the overall title. The current champion, Jamie Cryer in his Ginetta G20, Paul Rose in his Saker, the class B duo of Paul Dobson and Jon Woolfitt, Paul Rotheroe and Graeme Smith. With a virtually capacity grid of 36 cars, double points for the last round and plenty of jokers (double points) being played it was all to play for.

Luckily the weather did not play a part and the racing was fast, competitive and free of any major incidents. Following the first race three of the initial title contenders had dropped out of the race for the overall title but interestingly were all tied on the same points score, so lower positions would be fought over closely. The three drivers still in the hunt were Cryer, Rose and Woolfitt. It would all depend on who could win their class, take fastest lap with the added dynamic of lower points if there were not four class starters!

After a race affected by a safety car (which did not influence the result) all three took their respective classes, all three took fastest class laps, however number of starters was important. Class A saw only 3 starters so unfortunately Paul Rose could not score maximum points and fell 2 points short of taking the championship. Jon Woolfitt did all he could but was always going to be behind the others if they all won their class.

Consequently, Jamie Cryer who took his Ginetta to a wonderful 6th overall and fastest lap is crowned 2021 CNC Heads Sports/Saloon Champion.

Well done to Jamie and our other class champions, Paul Rose, Jon Woolfitt, Gary Warburton, Ric Walker and Graeme Smith. They will receive their awards at the new Real Night Out venue, Crewe Hall on the 15th January.

Roll on 2022 our 39th season, the first round provisionally in Oulton Park on the 2nd April.
